Smoke tests in accordance with the recommendations of the vfdb
Smoke tests on an experimental basis may be carried out for testing smoke and heat extraction systems or differential pressure systems in special buildings.
vfdb guidlines "Principles of Smoke Tests in Buildings"
These examinations are based on the vfdb described "Principles of Smoke Tests in Buildings", issued in 2000. The directive distinguishes between the following three steps in smoke tests:
Step 1: General evaluation of the flow behavior in the building
Step 2: Qualitative evaluation of the smoke extraction system by natural and mechanical ventilation.
Step 3: Qualitative evaluation of the smoke extraction system by natural ventilation, compared to a fire simulation.
Implementation
As part of the smoke test, small particles are expelled inside the property by an aerosol generator with heat support (burner). The particles then show up in the air flows.
Documentation and evaluation
We can offer you implementation of Steps 1-3 for smoke tests and the appropriate computerized fire simulations.
Documentation of the test with photos and video are part of our service. As part of a fire protection report, the test structure, the implementation, and the observations are described. We evaluate the results, taking the previously-specified protection objectives into account.
